Below are writing samples done by the children in Room Chet, phonetically writing and describing the progress of the eggs found on the playground outside of their classroom. Daily the children were shown a picture of the eggs, the hatching process and the birds. At first they went up to the nest to peek but after doing a little research decided not to in order to protect the young birds. If the mother was scared to return to the nest because of their visits, who would feed the babies?

Room Hey's Calm Down Book
Hillary Isaacs came into our classroom to teach the children
about their various emotions. Leading in
to a discussion about strong emotions that can take over the way we
behave. She continued the conversation
about how to deal with them effectively.
The kids came up with their own ideas about what to do in order to calm
down. Their ideas included drawing, running around to blow off steam or reading
a book.
